# The assistant says it can't do something

Allow a switched-off tool for one chat, or find the setting that blocks it.

In 1.3.0 the assistant searches for a matching tool before it gives up, and Chat shows a card when the tool exists but is not available. Look for one of these under the reply:

| Card                      | Meaning                                                                              | What to do                                                                                                                                   |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Allow X in this chat** | The tool is switched off for the site | An administrator clicks it. The tool is allowed in this conversation only and the assistant continues. Site-wide settings do not change. |
| **Use X in this chat** | The tool is on, but this chat (often a Task conversation) was limited to other tools | Click it to add the tool to this chat |
| Safety-setting notice | The tool can change code, files, the database or users | Turn on **Settings > Advanced > AI can use advanced tools** and enable the tool under **Integrations > Advanced tools**, only if you need it |
| **Needs X** / Requirement | A plugin, version or setting is missing | Follow the button to Integrations |

No card at all? Then:

* The job may need something WP AI Manager does not do. Payment, shipping and refund settings, for example, are never Chat actions.
* Your role may lack a capability. Ask an administrator to check **Settings > Access**.
* The page may be protected (cart, checkout, my-account, privacy policy or one added in Settings).
* Ask again plainly. The assistant does not assume an earlier failure in the chat still applies.

The assistant can never turn a tool on itself, and never sends you to settings instead of showing a card. See [Tools and permissions](https://docs.3techagency.com/documentation/reference-and-help/tools-and-permissions).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.3techagency.com/help-center/workflows-and-recovery/the-assistant-says-it-cant-do-something.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
